The governor of Monte Cristi, Nelsy Milagros Cruz apologized to the nation for the statement that the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) was just hours away from enjoying all the spoils of power. The governor said the statement was “unfortunate” and apologizes “from the depth of her heart.”
Once the statement circulated on social media, the director of Ethics and Government Integrity, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch responded warning the 38-year old governor that one does not go to power to enjoy ‘the honey’, but to serve the people.
“I see myself in the obligation to transmit this message to the province of Montecristi. One does not go to government to enjoy the sweetness of power, one goes to serve. And the Perremeista who is not willing to serve the state must know that he/she cannot serve this government,” said the former Vice President of the Republic.
In defending her daughter, the governor’s mother, called Ortiz Bosch a “vieja chancluda” (old woman in flip-flops). The video with the remark also became the talk of the town.
The number of government entities taken over by incumbents imposing the spoils system is increasing, with the media on its tails. The media has covered cases in the Ministry of Youth, Banco de Reservas, San Luis community college (ITSC), among others. Ortiz Bosch has not commented on the recent reports on TV investigative shows on increasing political patronage in government.
