President Abinader to attend Iberoamerican Summit in Andorra

President Luis Abinader will travel to Andorra for the 27th Iberoamerican Summit on 20 and 21 April 2021. Twenty-two countries are part of the Iberoamerican Summit gathering, yet most will take part online.

The theme for the 2021 summit is “Innovation for Sustainable Development: Objective 2030. Iberoamerica and the challenge of the coronavirus.”

Abinader will be one of a handful of heads of state who have confirmed attending in person. The others attending in person will be the heads of government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI. Prime Minister Antonio Costa and Prime Minister Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will represent Portugal. President Alejandro Giammattei of Guatemala has confirmed his attendance. Guatemala was the host of the previous Iberoamerican Summit. The Dominican Republic is scheduled to host the event in 2022.

The hosts for the event for Andorra is head of government Xavier Espot Zamora and Spanish bishop Joan Enric Vives I Sicilia and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Iberoamerican Summit is preceded by the Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Relations on 15 April and the 19-20 April 13th Iberoamerican Business Summit.

Andorra is a tiny state located in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains of southern Europe. It is bordered by Spain and France. It has a population of around 90,000 persons.
