DR interested in attracting Spanish manufacturing

President Luis Abinader met with his counterpart Pedro Sanchez in Spain and motivated that Spain invest in other areas aside from tourism. The areas on the table are manufacturing, health, education and other services. Abinader met with Sanchez at the Moncloa Palace as part of the official visit to Spain. President Abinader was accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez, Dominican ambassador to Spain, Juan Bolívar Díaz and the director of ProDominicana (the Dominican export-investment office), Biviana Riveiro.

The meeting took place on the eve of the 27th IberoAmerican Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held 20-21 April in Soldeu, Principality of Andorra.

“We talked about vaccinations and recovery after the pandemic and about cooperation between our countries. We share a close bilateral relationship in a multitude of sectors that we want to continue to strengthen,” reported President Sanchez on his Twitter account after the meeting.

Prior to the meeting with the head of the Spanish government, the Dominican President met with Spanish businessmen, who have large investments in the Dominican Republic at the Casa de America in Madrid. President Abinader made a presentation at the Gabriela Mistral auditorium of Casa de America to Spanish business people interested in investing in the DR. The event was organized by the Dominican Chamber of Commerce in Spain and the Business Alliance Council for Iberoamerica (CEAPI). President Abinader highlighted the resilience of the Dominican Republic and its prompt recovery despite the present health and economic crisis.

On Monday evening, President Abinader was received by King of Spain, Don Felipe VI at the Royal Palace of El Pardo, the official royal residence.
