Travel to the Dominican Republic continues to recover. Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) is rebounding thanks to a combination of tourism and friends and family travelers. As reported by Aerodom marketing director Frederic Andrieu to Simple Flying, Las Americas was the fourth-highest of the 32 airports fully or partly managed by the Vinci Group. He says for the Easter holidays, travel returned to the 2018 volumes at both Santo Domingo international airports, Las Americas and La Isabela. Around 30 a day departures are planned – JetBlue, American, United, Delta, Frontier, Spirit and Eastern. Ten airports are served from SDQ: New York, Miami, Newark, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Charlotte, Atlanta, Washington-Dulles and Philadelphia.
Andrieu told Simple Flying that traditional markets from Europe and Central America are also recovering. He mentioned that SDQ will have 13 departures next week for Iberia and Air Europa flights. Copa will have 11 departures to Panama City.
Moreover, Simple Flying reports that by 4 September 2021, JetBlue expects to have more flights in the air than before the pandemic struck. JetBlue is the main air carrier serving United States-bound travel.
