Forest fires in Bahoruco

Major fires continue to affect the forests in Bahoruco, in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. As reported, the fires gained ground due to the low number of rangers assigned to the area.

Yet, forest fighting brigades were sent to Loma del Toro near Paraje Zapoten in the Bahoruco mountain range.

As reported in Listin Diario, personnel from the Ministry of Environment, the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA), and members of the Army, together with forest firefighters and Civil Defense volunteers are tackling the fire to avoid its spread.

Francis Jiménez Sena, administrator of the Sierra del Bahoruco Park, said they are working to control the situation, but more personnel are needed due to the magnitude of the fires.
