No more drinks on the beaches

As part of the many steps taken to put a halt to the climbing death toll from adulterated alcoholic drinks, the government banned the sale of alcohol by vendors on different beaches and on tours.

The Ministry of Tourism issued the prohibition for the sale of alcoholic beverages on touristic excursions. The Ministry of Defense was ordered to carry out random inspections to ensure compliance with the new norm.

President Luis Abinader is the head of the government’s Tourism Cabinet. This year, there have been more than 100 fatalities and 300 plus persons poisoned by the consumption of adulterated liquor. Last weekend, the authorities announced the shutdown of a clandestine liquor operation in Guerra, Santo Domingo province, where over 12,000 gallons of adulterated alcohol were seized.
