President Luis Abinader fired Tomás Ozuna Tapia, the general manager of the EdeEste power distribution company. In the interview with Alicia Ortega and Huchi Lora on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, the President had said the power distribution companies could do better.
Andrés Astacio, executive vice-president of the Unified Council of Distributors, formerly the CDEEE, was appointed in his place.
Edeeste is the company with the highest losses of the EDEs. President Luis Abinader admitted that reducing fraud and adding new customers is a difficult task during these pandemic times. As reported, EdeEste posted 51% in losses for the January-April quarter of this year.
During the interview that marked his first nine months in government, President Abinader confessed to feeling frustrated that the electricity distributors were still reporting huge losses, although he acknowledged that the energy supply had improved “quite a bit” during his administration.
