Dominican deputy arrested for drug trafficking declares himself not guilty in Florida court

Dominican Deputy Miguel Gutiérrez Díaz (PRM-Santiago) declared himself not guilty of charges of drug trafficking. Dennis Urbano said his client will accept preventive detention with review of the coercive measure and requested a jury trial in the hearing on Friday, 21 May 2021 in Miami, Florida.

According to the official indictment against him, from 2014 to 2017, Gutierrez Diaz was part of a transnational drug trafficking network that operated in the Dominican Republic, Colombia and the United States.

In the official document from the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, which is in charge of the case, the deputy’s brother, Miguel Emilio Gutiérrez Díaz, alias El Alemán and the Dominican brothers Endy de Jesús Núñez Mármol, alias El Fuerte and Danny Núñez Mármol, are also linked and charged with the same charges. As reported, Miguel Emilio Gutiérrez Díaz manages the corporate affairs of the deputy in the Dominican Republic.
