The National Health Service (SNS) has added 150 more beds to Greater Santo Domingo’s Covid-19 care capacity. Dr. Mario Lama, director of the SNS, said the beds were fitted at the brand-new maternal building at the Ciudad Sanitaria Luis Eduardo Aybar and will attend to Covid-19 patients in the capital city. Greater Santo Domingo is suffering an outbreak in Covid-19 cases, attributed to people’s high mobility and relaxing preventive measures
Of the 150 Covid-19 beds, 104 are for intermediate hospitalizations and the rest in intensive care units. Lama explained that the 104 could be converted to ICU units at any time.
The 150 new beds are in addition to 60 beds that originally had been fitted at the newly inaugurated Ciudad Sanitaria Luis Eduardo Aybar to service Covid-19 patients.
