Pace of vaccinations is slower than expected; young people are not getting vaccinated

After the Dominican government has made available free Covid-19 vaccinations for all over 18 years of age with Dominican IDs, the numbers of vaccinated per day have been dropping.

According to World in Data, the country vaccination recent stats are:
15 May: 108,511
16 May: 109,363
17 May: 108,806
18 May: 104,331
19 May: 98,111
20 May: 93,231
21 May: 88,977
22 May: 88,610

The reason seems to be that young people have not responded to the vaccination programs the same way their parents and those 60+ did at the start of the National Vaccination Plan.

The Dominican government has made getting vaccinated easy in the country, with vaccination stations open until 8pm or 9pm at major shopping centers in many urban areas. Many of the centers stay open on weekends, too. The government has also carried out major operations to take the vaccination to rural communities and to the interior.

The Dominican government has said its goal is to vaccinate at least 100,000 persons a day. So far about a third of the adult population has been vaccinated.

N Digital reports that Vice President Raquel Peña, who is the head of the Health Cabinet, said concerts are planned where the admission ticket is a fully vaccinated card. The concerts are intended as a way to motivate young people to get vaccinated.
