Schools authorized to reopen on 25 May 2021

Education Minister Roberto Fulcar confirmed the government authorization for semi in-person learning starting Tuesday, 25 May 2021 nationwide. The return to classes is voluntary, gradual and will be carried out in a controlled manner and with the families’ consent.

The Ministry of Education issued a press release. The minister says that students of elementary and the last year of technical and arts high schools are authorized to return to classes on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, the Ministry of Education says that public schools in the National District, the province of Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal are not authorized to return to in-person learning given the spike in Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks.

In the same press release, Fulcar says that private schools are authorized to open in the National District and Santo Domingo and San Cristobal provinces because their student population is much less.

The Ministry of Education is also requesting that teachers at the private schools have carried out PCR tests 48 hours before the start of classes.
