Government council sessions in Barahona; government announces billions in infrastructure for Enriquillo Region

President Luis Abinader was in southwestern Barahona on 26 May 2021 where a routine council of ministers and department directors meeting was held. He announced that the government would be investing RD$6.42 billion in infrastructure works for the southwestern provinces of Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales, the Enriquillo Region.

He said many of the projects are already underway and are providing much-needed jobs for the population.

Economy Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton explained the highlights. The government is investing in improving water service through the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage (Inapa) and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi).

The government is reinforcing health provisions in the southwest given that health data shows a spike in Covid-19 cases in those provinces that border with Haiti.
