The Ministry of Public Health received another shipment of one million Sinovac/Coronavac vaccines and syringes from China. The batch brings the total of vaccines imported from China to 5,318,000. Vice President Raquel Peña, at the airport to receive the shipment, said the new batch was purchased at US$18 per dose.
The new batch arrived on 25 May 2021 on a TuiFly flight from China via Brussels, Belgium.
The new Chinese vaccination shipment brings to 5,628,000 the vials of Sinovac/Coronavac vaccine available for people to get vaccinated in the Dominican Republic. Add to this an additional 50,000 Chinese Sinopharm vaccines (used to inoculate the military and police) and the DR has imported 5,318,000 doses from China, or 94% of the total vaccines used in the country.
In the Dominican Republic, all 18+ years of age with Dominican IDs are urged to get inoculated. Given the hundreds of centers nationwide, getting vaccinated is fast, easy and free in the Dominican Republic.
In total, the Dominican Republic has received 5,646,400 doses of vaccines since February 2021.
“We continue to work tirelessly to acquire vaccines against Covid-19 to guarantee the health of the Dominican people,” said Vice President Raquel Peña, speaking to the press at Las Americas International Airport on Tuesday.
