Presidency extends national state of emergency, keeps national curfew and imposes stricter curfew in Greater Santo Domingo

The Presidency published Decree 345-21 and Decree 346-21 ordering Dominicans to keep their guard as a new spike in the spread of Covid-19 is affecting the country.

Decree 345-21 extends for 45 days as of 30 May 2021 the national state of emergency declared in the country by Decree No. 265-20.

Decree 346-21 orders that the measures contained in Decree 133-21 of 1 March 2021 will continue until Friday, 11 June 2021 with restrictive measures for the entire country.

In its Art. 3 of Decree 346-21 extends the curfew in Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and National District). This will now be from 8pm to 5am. The decree authorizes a three-hour free circulation period and establishes this is exclusively for people to travel to their respective residences. The same article prohibits the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places and private places with public use from 5pm to 5am. It orders that public spaces and private spaces of public use operate at no more than 50% of their total capacity keeping to the current protocols. The decree motivates working from home again for government officials.

Art. 4 of Decree 346-21 instructs the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) to take “necessary actions” to establish special entry requirements for people coming from countries where there are new variants of Covid-19.

Statistic reports show an increase in the number of young people infected with the disease. Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera says that more than 80% of those catching the disease recently have not been fully vaccinated. He urged people to get the two doses. Covid-19 statistics show that 77% of the new cases have been reported in the National District, Santo Domingo province, nearby San Cristobal province and Santiago province.

A report in Diario Libre says that a person with a light case of Covid-19 would spend around RD$40,000 even having premium medical insurance.

Vaccination is easy, free and accessible in the Dominican Republic and is open to all 18+ years with Dominican IDs.
