President Luis Abinader took advantage of his trip on Thursday, 27 May 2021 to Punta Cana to attend the business presentation on Samaná as a premium destination in the Caribbean held for 300 travel agents from Spain, Italy and Portugal. The event took place at the Bahia Principe Bavaro resort in Punta Cana.
The President was accompanied Tourism Minister David Collado and the CEO of Grupo Piñero (Bahia Principe resorts), Encarna Piñero.
President Abinader spoke of his conviction that tourism in the the Dominican Republic is not only recovering, but the pandemic will make it much stronger.
“In tourism we all walk, we all advance together. The entrepreneurs advance, their executives, but, above all, the thousands of jobs of families that making a living from the sector,” said the President.
Abinader valued the efforts of all those who make it possible for tourism to continue strengthening and thanked the tourism players for trusting the government.
He said tour operators know that their customers enjoy the greatest security in the Dominican Republic in terms of health and public safety. He emphasized that the country has among the lowest levels of Covid-19 lethality in the world [1.26%] and that all tourism and hotel personnel are vaccinated.
The head of state said that many interesting projects are coming for the Dominican tourism sector, as they are working on new complementary offers so that in addition to the beaches, visitors can enjoy the Dominican culture and its culinary arts.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Collado thanked the Piñero family for always believing in the Dominican Republic. He pointed out that every time tour operators, travel agencies or airlines write about the beauties of the country, they are helping with the generation of jobs. “The Dominican Republic is a country of good, noble, hard-working people and tourism for us is not a luxury, it is the engine of our country’s economy,” Collado said.
The CEO of Grupo Piñero, Encarna Piñero, thanked the President for the great support given by the government to the tourism sector.
After the activity, President Abinader attended a lunch with tour operators, travel agencies and the media.
As part of the fam trip, the travel agents visited Los Haitises National Park and Cayo Levantado in Samaná. They also visited the four most exclusive hotels of Grupo Piñero in the area: Bahía Príncipe Grand, El Portillo Grand Cayacoa, Luxury Samaná and Luxury Cayo Levantado.
