
The Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico 5-2 in its opening game in the three-day WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier that was played at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, USA. Raul Valdes was the winning pitcher for the Dominican Republic.
On Tuesday, 1 June 2021, the Dominican Republic will play Team USA in The Ballpark in West Palm Beach.
Four games are scheduled on each day of the Tokyo Olympics Qualifying event. One spot in the six-team Olympic baseball event is up for grabs. Second and third-place finishers will have one more chance in a Final Qualifier.
The DR is ranked 10th, Puerto Rico 11th. Other teams participating in the qualifier are USA (ranked 2nd) and Nicaragua (ranked 15th).
