Puerto Plata is one of the seven provinces exempted from the 6pm business close order issued by the Presidency to start on 2 June 2021. While most of its businesses can remain open until 10pm, the Ministry of Public Health ordered the temporary shutdown for 15 days of the Puerto Plata Malecón and two major businesses on that city’s coastal boulevard.
The measures are taken due to the major agglomerations of people on the boardwalk without these keeping physical distance and wearing masks.
Puerto Plata sanitary authorities ordered that from 3pm on Monday 31 May 2021 until Wednesday, 16 June 2021, the Malecón is shutdown. The businesses Miami Bar and Eleven Pop Bar & Restaurant are ordered closed for 10 days.
The provincial director of Health in Puerto Plata, Dr. Jhonny Tavarez Capellán announced the measures. He said the indiscipline of many unscrupulous citizens during the last few days had led to a slight increase in the infection rate of Covid-19 in the province. Puerto Plata’s positivity rate hovers over 5%, while since January it had stabilized at below 3.5%.
He warned other businesses that there would be more penalties to those who violate the sanitary protocols.
