Cibao Airport alarm caller sent to three months custody

On Thursday, 10 June 2021, Jorge Rafael Hernández Almonte was charged with terrorism and aggravate violence. The public prosecutor’s office was ordered to serve three months of preventive imprisonment in a Santiago jail as he awaits his trial. Hernández Almonte is accused of having given a false warning of a bomb at the Cibao International Airport on 28 May 2021, allegedly to prevent his girlfriend from boarding a plane at the terminal. The call caused a delay in flight operations.

The prosecutors said that when making the call, Hernández Almonte assured that a woman was about to board a plane bound for New York City, United States, with an explosive device in her luggage. The called triggered the established security protocols and the delay of flights until the situation was normalized.
