
The Attorney General Office announced the arrest of ten persons over the weekend, including Luis Maisichell Dicent, the suspended director of the National Lottery, the government lottery. The arrests were carried out as part of Operation 13 on Saturday by the public prosecution agency and the administrative anti-corruption agency (Pepca) officials.
Operation 13 seeks to identify those responsible for the fraud detected at the National Lottery on 1 May 2021. The arrests took place in the National District and the provinces of Monseñor Nouel (Bonao) and Santo Domingo.
In addition to Luis Maisichell Dicent, others arrested were: William Lisandro Rosario Ortiz, Valentina Rosario Cruz, Jonathan Brea, Carlos Berigüete, Miguel Mejía, Felipe Santiago Toribio, Rafael Mesa, Eladio Batista Valerio and Edison Manuel Perdomo Peralta.
The arrested are at the Palacio de la Justice jail in Ciudad Nueva, awaiting pre-trial custody orders.
Deputy prosecutors Yeni Berenice Reynoso and Wilson Camacho, in charge of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Pepca, headed the operation.
