Queens of the Caribbean are 7th in Nations League volleyball tournament

The Dominican Republic’s women’s volleyball team, known internationally as the “Queens of the Caribbean,” is seventh in the Nations League tournament standing. The event is serving as a warm-up for the July 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Team Dominican Republic is one of the 12 women’s volleyball teams competing in the Olympics.

The Dominican Republic picked up recent wins against Thailand and tournament host Italy while losing to China in the championship taking place in Rimini, Italy.

So far, the DR has won six games and lost five in the 16-team Nations League tournament. The top seven teams are: USA, Brazil, Japan, Turkey, Netherlands, Russia and the Dominican Republic.

Over the weekend, the DR lost to China 1:3 (14-25, 20-25, 25-19 and 22-25), but won games to host Italy (25-21, 25-19, 22-25 and 26-24) and Thailand 3-0 (16-25, 17-25 and 23-25).

The DR will next play Netherlands (14 June), Japan (18 June), Serbia (19 June), Germany (20 June). The semi-finals of the Nations League will be played among the top four teams on 24 June and the final round on 25 June.
