
Coach Melvyn López announced on Monday, 14 June 2021 the Dominican team to the basketball Olympic Games qualifier in Belgrade, Serbia, 29 June- 4 July 2021. The winning team gets a slot in the Tokyo Olympics 12-team basketball tournament.
The Dominican team members are Brandon Francis, Sadiel Rojas, Gelvis Solano, Rigoberto Mendoza, Adonys Henríquez, Ángel Núñez, Víctor Liz, Jonathan Araújo, Andrés Féliz, Luis Santos and Mike Torres and Eloy Vargas.
The coaching staff that accompanies Coach Lopez is José (Maíta) Mercedes, David Díaz and Luis Guzmán, and physical trainers Eliezer Dubin and Marvin Zamora. Dr. William Grano de Oro will be the biosecurity doctor and Junior Páez, the delegate.
The team flew out of Punta Cana International Airport to Serbia via Germany after spending several intense days of training at the Palacio de los Deportes Profesor Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo.
The Dominican team plays the Philippines and Serbia in Group A group in the Olympic playoffs. Puerto Rico, Italy and Senegal are in Group B.
The Dominican Republic’s first game is scheduled for Tuesday, 29 June against Serbia, and on Thursday, 1 July against the Philippines.
