The Volleyball Nations League is the most important annual International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) competition.
The Dominican Republic’s women’s team finished sixth in the tournament held this year in Rimini, Italy. The tournament was a preparatory round for the Tokyo Olympics. The DR did not make the semifinals of the Nations League. The teams making the Nations League semifinals are USA, Brazil, Japan and Turkey. China was fifth and the DR sixth.
In its last two games in the tournament, the DR defeated Serbia 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-18) and Germany, 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 14-25, 25-27 and 15-9).
The team returns to the Dominican Republic on Monday, 21 June 2021 to continue training for the Tokyo Olympics.
This will be only the third time the Dominican women’s senior volleyball team participates in an Olympic Games. The previous times were in Athens 2004 and London 2012. In London, the Dominican team made it to the quarterfinals, finishing 5th in the London Olympics.
