Hiring for public school teachers now requires these take competitive examinations and other new requirements. The assessments will fill the vacancies in the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels.
The Ministry of Education assessment period is open from Monday, 21 June to 20 July. It is held to select the required personnel to fill vacancies in public schools nationwide. School psychologists, student counsellors and school directors are required to pass the same general cognitive skill and disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge assessments.
Education Minister Roberto Fulcar says that the new system seeks to ensure that the most competent enter the public school system. He said the government is complying with General Education Law 66-97. The president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), that groups public school teachers, spoke up in favor of the new assessment actions.
