
The Presidency requested another 45 days of the National State of Emergency. The Presidency argues that the curfew and restrictive measures are keeping the virus in check. The Presidency calls for more time to advance in the vaccination campaign. The request was submitted to the Senate. The present state of emergency ends 14 July. The Dominican Republic has been under a state of emergency since 18 March 2020. Procurement rules are relaxed under a state of emergency.
The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is majority in both the Senate and Chamber of Deputies and thus has sufficient votes among its members to pass the extension.
