
The Chamber of Deputies passed the contract signed by the Dominican state and Apache Dominican Republic Corporation to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in the southeastern offshore area off San Pedro de Macoris province. The bill now moves on to the Senate.
Deputy José Horacio Rodríguez (Alianza País – National District) was a dissenting vote. He opposed the conditions granted to Apache Corporation for the oil exploitation in Dominican coastal waters, and expressed concerns about the environmental impact. He stated that “Apache Corporation has a questionable operating history.”
The contract was signed on 22 October 2020 by Energy & Mines Minister Antonio Almonte Reynoso and Timothy R. Custer for Apache.
