The United Arab Emirates has joined the Central American Integration System (SICA). Central American countries and the Dominican Republic make up SICA.
The new relationship with the UAE will allow working on a regional strategic agenda that includes issues such as food and nutrition security, digital transformation, strengthening trade and capacity building in SICA member countries.
SICA Secretary General Vinicio Cerezo signed for the regional Central American bloc and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Cultural Affairs, Omar Saif Ghobash, for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The signing took place within the framework of the 55th Summit of Heads of State and Government of SICA member countries.
The UAE had been admitted as an Observer to SICA on 16 October 2020, at the 81st Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SICA, and its incorporation process was completed on 24 June 2021 with the signing of its accession to the regional system.
