Ministry of Education distributes 600,000 e-devices; alert on massive school desertion

With most of the Dominican Republic undergoing remote learning for more than 16 months, the Ministry of Education has been scrambling to provide laptops, tablets and other electronic gear to as many of public school students as possible. There are many other considerations to be taken into account, of course, such as electricity, access to the Internet and device and Internet skills.

All of this taken under consideration, the Ministry of Education says it has delivered 632,000 pieces of equipment to its students in primary, secondary and adult education programs.

Meanwhile, Samuel Conde alerted that a recent poll by the Educa pro-education non-profit indicates that an unprecedented 80,000 to 100,000 of public school students are at risk of deserting due to the decision of the Ministry of Education to keep public schools closed throughout the pandemic.
