Retired General Salvador (Chinino) Lluberes Montas says he is a victim of an insider job that cost him US$6.4 million in life savings. He had the money in safe boxes in his property in Casa de Campo, La Romana. He says the caretaker at his house and several others are under arrest, but he hasn’t recovered a cent yet from what he describes as an inside job.
When asked about why the money was stashed in his house and not in the banks, Lluberes Montas said he did not trust banks. He said the money resulted from his savings of 40 years of work and of earnings from real estate transactions in Miami. He made the statements during a chat with retired general Rafael Betances Nivar, shared on Diario Libre.
Diario Libre recalls that Lluberes Montas was one of the accused of the murder of journalist Orlando Martinez. He is a former chief of the Police and the Armed Forces during the Joaquin Balaguer governments.
Diario Libre reports the National Police has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Jean Rodríguez (El Bori). Lluberes Montás says there are five under arrest. He accuses a trusted employee of collaborating with others in the robbery. He said he was gagged and beaten by the thieves that got away with just the cash. As reported, the robbery occurred in February 2021.
