Attorney General Miriam German Brito explained in a letter the travel allowance status of former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez as of 28 June 2021. The letter is sent after Rodríguez was impeded to leave the country on Thursday, 26 June 2021.
Rodriguez had boarded a Spirit flight to Orlando, Florida on Thursday, 26 June 2021, but the flight had to disembark all passengers for operational reasons. When Rodriguez sought to book another flight, he was told he could not leave the country. It was the second time he had tried to leave the country and was impeded to do so. In November, he would have boarded a private flight with his family to travel to the United States and then to Europe reportedly for a medical checkup.
The Migratory alert is a recourse that has been used to impede a person from leaving the country, many times because the person has a legal case in process.
Now the chief prosecutor says that she had held a meeting with the Migration director to clarify that the migratory alert is illegal and would not be applied during her term as attorney general. The measure was in place and used during the term of Rodriguez. The red alert impeded Rodriguez from traveling last Thursday, 24 June 2021 to Florida.
Germán Brito says that the Migration Director Enrique García had agreed that the migratory alerts be lifted. She says disciplinary actions will be taken regarding who violated the agreement with the Migration Agency.
The attorney general said she personally would not participate in any legal procedures against her predecessor. Rodriguez spent billions of pesos to build a jail to replace the Victoria Jail. Despite the penitentiary being inaugurated by former President Danilo Medina, it has never been operational.
Hoy reports that Anti-Corruption Prosecution (Pepca) prosecutors and criminal investigations (Dicrim) agents of the Police and Swat agents raided the domicile of the mother of the former attorney general in the Torre Luz, José Amado Soler 92 late at night on Monday, 28 June 2021.
Hoy reports that the mother of Rodriguez’s, Maybé Altagracia Sanchez Caminero, told Channel 11 News from Germany, of her indignation at the attack on her family. “What are they looking for in my house. Don’t make a show with me, I am a woman of class,” the woman would tell the TV reporters. Sanchez Caminero served as Dominican ambassador in Germany during the past Danilo Medina administration.
Somos Pueblo reports on raids to the 11th floor residence of the former attorney general at Logroval Tower 16 on José Amado Soler/Manuel de Jesús Troncoso, in Piantini sector of the National District.
There were also reports of a raid to the home of the advisor of former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez, Miguel Jose de Moya in the Cerro Alto sector, in Jarabacoa. Moya is under investigation for a RD$20 million contract since 2018 to assist in communication strategy at the Attorney General’s Office. Lawyer Candido Simó says that De Moya was arrested in Jarabacoa and would be tried in Santo Domingo.
Jean Alain Rodriguez would tweet: “They seek to silence me, through raids, to continue disguising the lack of respect for due process.”
El Dia reports in its 29 June issue that there is an arrest order for Jean Alain Rodriguez.
