A pre-taped interview with TV host Roberto Cavada was aired on Telesistema, Channel 11 Tuesday on 29 June 2021 in which former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez refers to the accusations he had made against his successor Miriam German during his National Council of the Magistracy assessment of her performance as a Supreme Court of Justice judge. The CNM was then presided by President Danilo Medina (2012-2020).
Germán at the time was the presiding judge of the Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice and had been critical of Rodríguez’s handling of the US$92 million Odebrecht bribes corruption case. Shortly after the accusations made by Rodríguez against Germán Brito, investigative journalists would prove these were false. Nevertheless, despite Rodríguez acknowledging the accusations were based on an anonymous source, these substantiated the vote by the CNM members for her removal from the Supreme Court of Justice.
On 16 August 2020, with the change of political party and government, Miriam German Brito was named the Attorney General.
“It is a moment I would not even like to remember. I have recognized and acknowledged, because we have to listen to the people, that it was a mistake. It was an excess and once again I apologize to society for the way in which that happening was interpreted.
“It was a moment of excess and time teaches one that there are always different ways of doing things. To err is human and I recognize my mistake and I learn from my mistakes so that they are not repeated again,” he said.
In the interview he also defended his actions for the construction of the Nueva Victoria jail and the programs in favor of those in jail in the country carried out during his term as Attorney General.
On the same day the taped interview was aired, the former Attorney General was arrested for major corruption in office.
