Eleven months after the debates opened, the Chamber of Deputies passed the around 400 articles of the revised Penal Code. The initiative received the vote of 128 legislators. Thirteen voted against, and seven deputies did not vote. The Penal Code continues to penalize abortion. The Dominican Republic continues to be among the very few countries in the world that do not accept exceptions to the criminalization of abortion. The bill now passes to the Senate.
