Prisilla Rivera and Rodrigo Marte to be Dominican flagbearers in Tokyo

The Dominican Olympic Committee chose the captain of the Dominican volleyball team, Prisilla Rivera, and boxer Rodrigo Marte to be the Dominican flagbearers in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on 23 July 2021.

Rivera is a member of the Dominican women’s volleyball team that recently placed sixth in the Nations League tournament held in Japan. The Tokyo Olympics will be Rivera’s third Olympic Games. She represented the Dominican Republic in the Athens 2004 and London 2012 Olympics. She has also competed in four Pan American Games — Santo Domingo 2003-gold, Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015-bronze and Lima 2019-gold.

This will be the first Olympics for boxer Marte. He won gold in the 2019 Lima Pan Am Games in the 52-kilogram division and silver in the Barranquilla Central American and Caribbean Games.

More than 11,000 athletes and delegates are registered for the Tokyo, Japan Olympic Games that will take place under strict Covid-19 protocols. The Games will be televised to Dominican audiences by Claro TV.
