US donates two mobile emergency operation centers

The United States government, through the US Southern Command, donated two state-of-the art mobile emergency operations centers and five medical defibrillators to the Center for Emergency Operations (COE). The grant is estimated at US$600,000. The US Embassy has donated US$12 million in assistance to the Dominican Republic for Covid-19 mitigation and disaster response and relief.

The donation ceremony took place at the US Embassy. Robert Thomas, charge d’affaires of the US Embassy said that the donation contributes to the shared efforts of the governments to protect the security of the DR and the entire region. Retired Major General Juan Manuel Méndez García received the donations.

The US Embassy explains that the donation is part of the US Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP). It follows on the donation in September 2020 of two mobile hospitals.
