Ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) politician Ramón Alburquerque recommended President Luis Abinader give his Minister of the Presidency Lisandro Macarrulla a leave of absence until the Justice Department advances in the investigations into the construction of the Nueva Victoria Jail. Alburquerque tweeted over the weekend that Macarrulla should be suspended until his possible involvement in the construction of the jail is cleared by the judicial investigations. Reports are that the 8,000-inmate jail was overpriced and the result of complicity between contractors and the Attorney General Office (PGR) under then attorney general Jean Alain Rodríguez. Rodriguez is now in jail awaiting the pretrial custody judge decision regarding accusations of corruption, money laundering and other charges made by state prosecutors.
