
President Luis Abinader signed the latest extension of the current National State-of-Emergency into law this weekend. There are some new twists to the provisions regarding the curfew hours and the time allowed to get home from work. Plus, in the new curfew schedule that goes into effect Wednesday, 7 July 2021, there is no longer a distinction between the National District, Greater Santo Domingo and San Cristobal and the rest of the country.
Now, everybody and everything shuts down at 10pm Mondays through Fridays until 5am. On Saturdays and Sundays, the curfew is now placed at 7pm until 5am. The free circulation time Monday to Friday is increased to midnight. On Saturdays and Sundays, unauthorized people need to clear the streets by 9pm. On weekends, businesses are ordered to close by 7pm.
As before, no major events or conglomeration of persons is allowed. Big groups are banned in public spaces. Public and private spaces open to the public are limited to use at 50% capacity. Face masks are obligatory in all public spaces.
No alcoholic beverages may be consumed in public or private places open to the public after 6:00 p.m. In the time between 6:00 p.m. and the beginning of the curfew, alcoholic beverages may be sold only for home consumption and with the tops and seals unbroken.
The government is keeping the shortened work hours for the public administration. Government working hours is to 3pm.
