25% of the starting position players in the 2021 Major League Baseball All Star Game will be from the Dominican Republic. The final voting process has included Rafael Devers, the third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Teoscar Hernández for the American League, and Fernando Tatis Jr playing for the National League.
The All Star game this year will be played in Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. It won’t be your typical All-Star break for Major League Baseball. It’s been two years since the last Midsummer Classic, so baseball fans will have plenty to celebrate during what will be an action-packed three days in Denver.
In the coming days, there will be further announcements about the makeup of the teams, plus the Home Run Derby, and the Future Stars Game.
A record number of young Dominicans may be playing. Guerrero and Tatis are in their early years of their MLB careers, and guys like Teoscar Hernandez are young players with just a few years in the Major Leagues. Rafael Devers, for example, has played just five years (since 2017), including the current season where he is leading in runs-batted-in (RBI), RBIs (70) and doubles (25). Fernando Tatis Jr. leads both National and American leagues in home runs. Guerrero, also in his third season, is one run behind Devers in the RBI race and is the American League leader in home runs.
