The initial hearing for the corruption case against former top prosecutor of the Dominican Republic Jean Alain Rodíguez and associates was postponed for Thursday, 8 July 2021. The court will then decide who gets sent to pretrial custody, domiciliary arrest or will be let free on bail.
The defense lawyers requested more time to study the file presented by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Office (Pepca) incriminating the former attorney general, his staff members, and associates and contractors. The Pepca office has named the case Operation Medusa.
The case presents diverse charges and centers around Attorney General procurement operations for the Jail System Humanization Program, the construction of the Nueva Victoria Jail, irregularities in use of seized assets, money laundering and other charges.
