RD$30 million to rebuild Sabana de la Mar dock

The Ministry of Public Works announced it has available RD$30 million to rebuild the pier in Sabana de la Mar in eastern Hato Mayor province. Public Works Minister Deligne Ascención made the announcement together with Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Port Authority. The pier will serve both fishing boats, yachts and sailing boats, and ferries that cross Samaná Bay.

Ascención and Rodríguez were in Sabana de la Mar to make the announcement after the pier in use collapsed.

“This is a work that the local authorities of this community had been requesting for a long time to President Luis Abinader,” said Ascención. He said the feasibility and design studies had already concluded and the government is ready to begin the construction.

He said that the construction of the dock is scheduled to be completed in about four months. The Port Authority will then be responsible for its operation.
