
State prosecutors have requested 18 months custody for former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez on 8 July 2021. Rodríguez is accused of a major corruption network operating from the Attorney General Office when he was the top prosecutor. Contrary to the previous top corruption cases, the cases are not being made available online or via TV to the general public. Reports are that the presentation of charges and participation of defense lawyers and accused during the pretrial coercive measures hearings could take through next Monday, 19 July 2021.
Judge Kenya Romero of the Permanent Attention Court of the National District is hearing the pretrial cases presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office under the head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca).
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) accuses former prosecutor Jean Alain Rodriguez; Jhonatan Joel Rodriguez Imbert, former administrative director of the Prosecutor’s Office; Alfredo Alexander Solano Augusto, former financial director; Altagracia Guillén Calzado, former deputy administrative and financial director; Jenny Marte Peña, former project manager; Javier Alejandro Forteza Ibarra, former technology director; Rafael Antonio Mercedes Marte, former accounting manager and Miguel José Moya, advisor and supplier of the Attorney General’s Office. The cabinet chief of the Attorney General Office under Jean Alain Rodriguez, Rafael Stefano Canó Sacco, is fugitive of justice. He is said to have traveled to Spain.
