
Follow the inauguration of the Olympic Games in Tokyo and the participation of 62 Dominican athletes in 10 sports on local television on Claro TV. Given the time difference, many of the most important events will be seen on primetime TV much after they have passed.
Rower Ignacio Vasquez was the first to perform for the country. He competed in men’s single sculls and ended his event in 5th place of Heat 2. It is also the first time that a Dominican has competed in the sport in the Olympics.
Baseball rounds start early (21 July), equestrian competitions follow (23 July), boxing (24 July), judo (24 July), taekwondo (24 July), weightlifting (24 July), volleyball (24 July), swimming and diving starts 25 July, baseball on 25 July.
The athletics schedule starts 30 July, with the Dominican team coached by two-time Olympic gold medal winner Felix Sanchez. Wrestling starts on 1 August.
The Dominican Republic is competing in: athletics (2 men and 3 women), boxing (4 men and 2 women), diving (one man), equestrian (1 man, 1 woman), judo (1 man), rowing (1 man), swimming (1 man, 1 woman), taekwondo (2 men, one woman), weightlifting (2 men, 3 women). Also in the team sports of women’s volleyball and baseball.
