Eduardo Estrella (Dominicanos por el Cambio-Santiago) will continue as president of the Senate. The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) board met and decided Estrella would preside the Senate for another year. There had been speculation that PRM senators Ricardo de los Santos or Antonio Marte would take on the presidency. The PRM is the ruling party in both houses and thus gets to decide who presides the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.
On 22 July, the party announced it had ratified the executive boards of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies for the 2021-2022 period, with Eduardo Estrella and Alfredo Pacheco to continue to preside these houses.
In the case of the Senate, Santiago Zorrilla will continue as vice president, Ginette Bournigal as secretary. The spokesperson for the PRM will be Faride Raful and Alexis Victoria, will be her substitute.
Olfanny Méndez will be the vice president of the Chamber of Deputies, Soraya Suárez will be the secretary, and Julio Fulcar will continue to act as spokesperson for the party, with Eugenio Cedeño as alternate.
