Minister says high GDP growth is possible

Minister of Economy Miguel Ceara Hatton has reported that estimates of Dominican GDP growth vary from an optimistic 11% to a more conservative 6% for the Dominican economy this year. The minister spoke in these terms while also urging people to continue with the vaccination process, since a new spike would affect the economic recovery.

Ceara Hatton announced that his ministry was in the process of funding 41 projects that were located in 21 municipal districts where poverty levels were hovering around 90% at a cost of about RD$120 million. These are small, make work projects such as sidewalks, cemeteries, funeral parlors, sports installations, public marketplaces and other such improvements on very basic services. Thousands of jobs will be created during the construction and afterwards. Deputy Minister Pavel Isa Contreras is in charge of the new program.
