Crismery Santana is first Dominican woman ever to win individual medal

With a bronze in -87 kg weightlifting, Crismery Santana made sports history for the Dominican Republic. She lifted 267 kg in the snatch and clean & jerk events. She placed behind China’s Zhouyu Wang and Ecuador’s Tamara Salazar.

President Luis Abinader was prompt to congratulate her on Instagram:
“DR making history! Crismery Santana wins bronze in the 87kg weightlifting category at Tokyo2020. First individual medal for a Dominican and for the 1st time the DR achieves 3 medals in an Olympic Games. Congratulations!,” posted President Abinader on his official Instagram account.
