
Marileidy Paulino won her heat in the 400m preliminaries in 50.06 and turned in the competitors’ best time. Her season best is 49.99.
Paulino is ranked 25th in the world in the event. She will compete on Wednesday, 4 August at 6:30am in the semifinals. The final is scheduled for 6 August.
Paulino already has a silver medal on 31 July in the 4 x 400m relay. On 31 July, together with Anabel Medina, the two became the first Dominican women to medal in an Olympic Games. The Dominican athletics team is coached by two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Felix Sánchez (400 m hurdles, Athens 2004 and London 2012). Paulino was trained by Cuban Yaseen Perez Gomez.
Teammate Yancarlos Martinez also qualified for the semi-finals in the 200 m on 3 August 2021.
