
The panoramic road linking Santiago to Puerto Plata is the way to go. The Ministry of Public Works announced the renovations on the 40km road are finished on the Carretera Turística General Gregorio Luperón. The scenic road travels through a winding mountainous area. The works included the road widening, improvement and protection of slopes, transversal and longitudinal drainage, protection against landslides. The road has been expanded in many areas to four lanes of 3.3 meters wide, with walkways, sidewalks.
The reconstruction and expansion of the mountain road benefits 30 communities in the Septentrional Mountain Range, including La Cumbre, El Llano, Pedro García, Lajas, Yaroa, Sonador, Tubagua, Yásica, El 30, El 20, El Capaz, Los Mellizos, Camú, Palo Quemado, la Cumbre de Juan Veras. Several ecotourism small hotels are located in the area that is also a major farming area.
