National District Mayor Carolina Mejia presided over celebrations of the 523rd anniversary of Santo Domingo on 5 August 2021. President Luis Abinader shared the first row of the Santo Domingo Cathedral with the Mayor and her parents, former President Hipólito Mejía and former First Lady Rosa Gomez.
Early in the morning, the Mayor had spoken to her team of collaborators at the City Government of the National District expressing appreciation for their efforts on behalf of the capital city. She said the team has faced many challenges, and no one said it was going to be easy, but there is pleasure in fulfilling one’s job, serving citizens with efficiency, in a honest way. “Today is a day that from the heart I express my thanks for the people that work with us everyday and for those that back us,” she said.
