Tokyo Olympics: DR seeks baseball bronze; Marileidy Paulino runs for gold in 400m

The United States is playing Japan to decide who wins the gold and silver on 7 August, 6am. The Dominican Republic baseball team will play South Korea for the bronze medal in the sport in the Olympic Games seven hours earlier at midnight (Dominican time). South Korea is the defending champion.

On Friday, 6 August at 8:30am, Marileidy Paulino competes for a medal in the 400 m. The Dominican runner was training in Cuba for the Olympics with her coach Yasser Perez when the pandemic hit. She remained in Cuba, staying at her coach’s house because there were few cases of Covid-19 in that country at the time and her coach was not allowed to leave. Eventually she returned to the DR and continued with remote training under the same coach.

Marileidy Paulino already has won a silver medal, for her outstanding participation in the 4 x 400m mixed relay on 31 July 2021.
