Abinader parks his Tesla in new facility in the Colonial City

President Luis Abinader drove his Tesla into the new government parking garage on Atarazana Street in the Colonial City and plugged into the charging service. This was the inaugural event for the first dedicated parking structure in the area. The new parking area is part of a plan to relieve the parking scarcity in the Colonial City.

The National Housing Institute (INVI) under the Abinader Administation got to the task and finished the parking area that had been started 10 years ago. The cost was close to RD$440 million and the money will be repaid through parking fees. The first hour will cost RD$50.

There are facilities for motorcycles and bicycles, ATMs, restrooms, disabled access, and elevators in operation 24 hours a day.

The authorities say the garage meets 30% of the demand for parking in the area.

Other similar facilities are expected to follow, many the result of private initiatives. The area in the Feria (Centro de los Heroes), where several ministries and the National Congress is located, has just opened a tender to build a parking garage. Santiago is also on the road to opening similar buildings to relieve parking in the central part of downtown and around the medical district.
