
The Dominican Sailing Federation (FDV) is organizing the PanAmerican Championships, the country’s first International Formula Kite Tournament. The event has the backing of the International Formula Kite Association. It is scheduled to take place 16-22 August 2021 in Cabarete, Puerto Plata. Cabarete is a prime kite surfing destination.
A strong Dominican delegation will participate along with competitors from Brazil, Colombia, France, Guadeloupe, Italy, Holland, Slovenia, Turkey, the United States. Kite will make its debut as an Olympic sport in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and this is one of the first qualifier events with 100 points.
“The Dominican Republic enjoys privileged conditions for the sport of sailing, warm weather, good wind and numerous beaches where it can be practiced all year round. We have already demonstrated that we have the local talent to exploit this, having obtained Central American Medals, Pan American Medals, World Titles, Medals in Youth Olympic Games, Participation in Olympic Games and now we are focused on obtaining medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this event is a big step and we need all the support to achieve this goal,” says Raul Aguayo, vice president of the Federation.
Villa Taina Hotel is the center of activities for the tournament. The event has the backing of the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Sports and Recreation, NODO, Domicen, Industrias Aguayo, Viva, Halka, Caribwind, Agua Gerico and Waterfront.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved Men’s and Women’s Kiteboarding (Formula Kite) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition.
