The Russian government has authorized the return of direct flights. The first flights programmed are three weekly flights into the La Romana airport, announced Dominican Ambassador to Russia, Hans Dannenberg Castellanos. Azur Air (Anex Tour) will be flying a B777 with 531 seats directly from the Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) in Vnukovo District, 28 km southwest of the center of Moscow, Russia. The announcement of the new flights coincides with new lows of Covid-19 cases in the Dominican Republic, where the positivity rate has dipped under 10%. 24-hour positivity for 8 August 2021 was a low 3.59%. Cases of coronavirus in Russia rose in July and then began to decline in August.
